Originally from Perth, Western Australia, Ven. Katy Cole BA (Hons) Psychology, MA Psychology has been a Buddhist nun for over 20 years. She ordained with His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala in 2004.
Before coming to the United States to work for her Buddhist teachers Katy
ran her own therapy practice and worked freelance as a psychologist for a
private practice, and as a brief/cognitive behavioral therapist for an
Employment Assistance provider.
Prior to meeting her Mahayana Buddhist teachers, Ven. Katy studied
Vipassana meditation with practitioners from Myanmar. In 2008, Katy
completed a 12 month meditation retreat on Kangaroo Island, South Australia
and has completed various practices and retreats within the Tibetan Buddhist
tradition, since that time.
Ven. Katy has a BA Hons in Theatre Arts from Dartington College of Arts,
U.K., a BA Hons in Psychology from Murdoch University, W.A, and a MA in
clinical psychology from the University of Western Australia.
Ven. Katy is currently living in Marin. She leads meditations online, over Zoom
for various centers within the FPMT, and in-person meditations at
the YMCA Marin branch.
Katy is also a certified Tai Chi Chih teacher and is a sub for that discipline at
the YMCA Marin branch.
Katy practices yoga, loves to swim and to hike.
